What are Skin Tags?

A skin tag is a common, acquired benign skin growth that looks like a small piece of hanging skin characteristically occurring in locations such as the neck, underarms, eyelids, and under the breasts.  It can be flat (sessile), or raised on a stalk (known as a pedunculated fibroma or acrochordon). When several stalked fibromas are present, they are referred to as “skin tags”.  Skin tags may vary somewhat in appearance, they are usually smooth or slightly wrinkled and irregular, flesh-coloured or slightly brown, and hang from the skin by a small stalk. Some skin tags may be as large as a grape they are caused by the excess production of keratin in the skin, which can be a consequence of the ageing process. (Mitosis of the skin cells slows down, so that the skin is more slowly renewed.).  Whilst associated with the ageing process a definitive cause is unknown, however skin tags may form due to friction from rubbing by clothing, jewellery or other materials. Skin tags are more common in people who are overweight or who have diabetes are usually painless and do not grow or change.

What Treatment is needed to Remove Skin Tags?

To remove skin tags, we use the latest Advanced Cosmetic Procedures. Before the treatment can take place, a consultation is free and a necessary requirement. The treatment process involves the use of a small probe used with a tiny energy current (short wave diathermy) to remove the blemished area. The treatment itself is easily tolerated. There are minimal after effects, with a little tightness and scabbing to be expected. Each treatment lasts approximately 15 minutes.

What Results are expected?

Skin Tags can be successfully removed, leaving a clearer, healthier looking skin. This treatment is suitable for men and woman on the face and or body.

For the next two to three days bathe the area only in cool water and avoid the use of products on the treated area as this may cause irritation. e.g. soap, cleanser, toner, moisturizer, perfumed products, make-up, self tanning products as use of products may also increase risk of infection.   It is important to allow the scabbing/crusting or crusting to fall off naturally within 3-5 days.
